The Things We Step on
This is a collaboration between painter Naoki Iwakawa, photographer Ken, and sculptor Hirotsune Tashima. It is based on Moriya's poem entitled: "Travel to Utopia."
There are four paintings placed randomly on the floor, depicting Peace, Religion, Feeling and Nature. When people walk around this room, they sometimes step on the images without noticing them.
Travel to Utopia -A journey to the land of peaceful living-
by Shige Moriya
Sometimes people stop and complain about their dissatisfaction. Some listen and some sneer at them but most just pass on by. Soon people will begin to walk as if remembering and will walk towards Utopia. Amid the journey people perceive nature. Some people consume the fruits and some sow the seeds which were left behind but most just copy others. Soon People will leave the means and results and begin to walk towards Utopia. One day people will suddenly become aware that everyone has separate Utopias. Some people show the goodness of their utopia and some talk about legendary lands but most just follow the others. Soon people will find companions and begin to walk confidently and one day people will encounter conflict. Some people try to stop it and some people participate in the dispute but most of them just watch from a distance. Soon people will begin to walk without regret a journey towards the Utopia of their dreams.
